Bowery Kitchen and Bar, the latest addition to the Blue Mountains food scene is a definite must do

Locals and tourists alike already have great things to say about Bowery Kitchen and Bar. Opening a little over two months ago, it has firmly made its mark on the Blue Mountains food scene.

From the team behind iconic Avalon Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, everything you love about Avalon has been ramped up a level to give Bowery a fun and distinctive place to dine.

Formerly, the site of St Andrew’s church and known for years as the Gingerbread House, it’s now a wonderful dining experience whether on a private date, out for group brunch or meeting new friends at some of their long, communal tables, it’s a meal to be savoured and enjoyed.

Priding themselves on sourcing local and seasonal produce, as well as catering for a wide range of dietary requirements, you won’t be short of options on their extensive menu. Their cocktail list is vibrant and quirky, and includes local favourites such as Blue Mountains Gin Company and KARU Distillery.

We checked them out on a Thursday evening, and were quickly seated at a table for two. Their menu is designed to be shared with a wide selection of small and large plates, but as we were both feeling hungry, we decided on a small share plate for entree, and each ordered a large plate for main.

The Prawn Koliwada small plate was yummy with crispy prawns with the right amount of heat and a tangy coriander and mint dip that was incredibly moreish. We definitely agreed next time to order a plate each. For mains, I ordered the Lemon Garlic Roast Chicken Thigh which was succulent and came with a delightful accompaniment of colourful, pickled vegetables and my dining partner enjoyed the Bush Tomato Spiced Snapper which was poached and beautifully spiced. We finished off the meal sharing probably the biggest Creme Caramel we’ve ever had between the two of us.

Bowery Kitchen and Bar is opened for Brunch, Lunch and Dinner from Thursday-Sunday, and is also a great venue to check out live music acts on Friday and Saturday nights. To avoid disappointment, book before checking out Bowery as it’s quickly earning a reputation of a must visit dining destination in the Blue Mountains.
