The Merchant Hotel, Belfast

The Merchant Hotel, Belfast brings together old world luxury and exceptional service in the heart of Belfast. Located in the popular Cathedral Quarter, it is easy access to cobblestoned laneways filled with a vibrant and eclectic mix of bars, clubs and restaurants.

The nineteenth century, grand building was the Ulster Bank headquarters and was transformed into a luxury hotel in 2006. Divided into two very distinct wings, the Art Deco wing and the Victorian wing, I’ve had the opportunity to stay at both.

Breakfast in the Great Room each morning was a meal to be savoured

On this visit, we stayed in the Victorian wing and found it gave easy access by a short staircase down to the Great Room where we enjoyed dinner on the first night, as well as a full breakfast each day. Close by was their in house cocktail bar where we would have pre dinner drinks or a nightcap before bed.

One of my favourite things to do at The Merchant is to spend time at their Day Spa, particularly before getting ready for dinner, taking an hour to relax in their Hydrotherapy area is pure bliss. My personal favourite was the Hydropool and Aroma Steam Room, whereas my partner really enjoyed the generous sized Sauna.

There’s a reason The Merchant Hotel is my go to hotel in Belfast. Not only is it in great proximity to the hub of Belfast night life, and a short walk to City Hall and the shopping district, the Hotel has fantastic facilities in house so you can really get the most out of your stay. Along with the Great Room and the Cocktail Bar, they’re also home to The Cloth Ear, their own quintessential Irish pub and my favourite place to hang out after dinner, Berts Jazz Bar which has a live music line up seven days a week.
