Cruise enthusiasts and first-time cruisers, I have a treat for you! Recently, I sailed on the stunning Celebrity Edge, and it was an experience like no other. From the breathtaking Suite Retreat Experience to the endless dining options and unique activities, the Celebrity Edge offers something for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or new to the sea, this ship has a way of making everyone feel right at home.
Our cruise spanned a short, yet fulfilling, four nights sailing from Sydney to Hobart and back. Boarding at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal was a breeze, and before we knew it, we were sipping cocktails on deck.
Hobart, a quaint port city, offered charming scenery and a gentle pace, perfect for a leisurely day trip. Our sail away from Hobart while dining at Eden remains a treasured moment, combining beautiful vistas with a delightful dining experience.
We hadn’t tried Celebrity Cruises before and thought this four night cruise would be a good way to discover what they had to offer. This introductory adventure promised not only relaxation but also a taste of exceptional dining, entertainment, and service that Celebrity Cruises boasts. So, with bags packed and excitement in tow, we embarked on our mini-holiday ready to uncover all the wonders the Celebrity Edge had in store for us.
The Suite Experience
The Retreat
Let’s start with the Suite experience. We opted for a Sky Suite with Retreat access, and it was a decision well made. Although the suite was smaller compared to those on other cruise lines like Princess or Royal Caribbean, it was spacious for two people on a four-night cruise. The stateroom was thoughtfully designed, from the bed that faced the balcony doors to a bathroom featuring a step-in bath and loads of storage. One of the great things was brushing your teeth while taking in the ocean views through a sliding mirror which opened to a window overlooking the bed and out to sea. Talk about a great start to the day!
Now, let me whisk you away to The Retreat, a private utopia exclusively for suite guests. The Retreat is your own dedicated space on board, complete with personalised service that makes you feel like a VIP from the moment you step in.
Luminae Restaurant
Guests who book a Suite are entitled to dine at Luminae which takes dining to a whole new level. This exclusive venue offers a menu including dishes crafted by Michelin-starred chef, Daniel Boulud,. From breakfast to dinner, you’ll find an array of delectable options that promise to be a delightful culinary journey. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet inviting, making Luminae a perfect place to enjoy an exceptional meal.
The sommelier was spot-on with wine pairings, which added a lovely touch to our culinary adventures.
Aqua Class
Ready to immerse yourself in a journey of wellness and rejuvenation? Let me introduce you to the Aqua Class on the Celebrity Edge, where health and luxury blend into one incredible package. Designed specifically for those who appreciate a holistic lifestyle, Aqua Class staterooms are situated in serene areas of the ship to ensure tranquillity.
Aqua Class guests also enjoy exclusive access to Blu, a restaurant dedicated to clean cuisine that is as refreshing as it is delicious. Picture starting your day with a breakfast featuring fresh fruits, smoothies, and other light, energising options. The Blu dining experience continues with meals that emphasize fresh ingredients and seasonal flavours, all prepared with a focus on wellness without sacrificing taste.
Other Staterooms including the Infinity Veranda
Of course there are plenty of other options to choose from when it comes to Staterooms tailored to different tastes and budgets, each promising a unique experience afloat. One standout is the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, an innovation that blurs the line between indoor and outdoor space. Imagine waking up to the sight of the sea greeting you just beyond your fingertips—it’s possible through a simple touch of a button that transforms your entire room. The Infinite Veranda enhances your living space, giving you more room to stretch out and enjoy the ocean breeze.
Dining Like Royalty
The Celebrity Edge’s specialty restaurants redefined what dining at sea could be.
Le Petit Chef
Le Petit Chef was truly one of the quirkiest and delightful dining experiences at sea. As we took our seats, an animated little chef appeared right on our plates, guiding us through a whimsical culinary journey, with each course unfolding like a storybook. The seamless blend of charming animations with gourmet dishes brought both wonder and taste to the table. The creativity behind each presentation made dining not just a meal but a memorable event. It was a feast for both the eyes and the palate, combining fun and fine dining in a way that was unexpected and delightful.
Eden: An Enchanting Experience
However, Eden was the absolute standout. Dining there during our sail away from Hobart was enchanting—we enjoyed the Tasting Menu while the coastline gently slipped away. Every dish was a masterpiece, and the Mulligatawny Soup and Lobster Casserole were particularly memorable. Complimented by the serene views and artful presentations, the evening felt like a seamless blend of nature and gourmet luxury.
Chef’s Table: A Culmination of Culinary Excellence
The Chef’s Table was our grand finale. It began with a Galley tour—a rare peek into the ship’s kitchen dynamics—followed by a seated dinner in a private room at the Fine Cut Steakhouse. Prepare yourself for a feast, as each course outdid the last and as always is the case at a Chef’s Table, a lot of food! Yet, I have to say, the Curried Cauliflower Soup with apple took the crown. Its intricate flavours were a testament to the chef’s skill, perfectly balancing spice and sweetness in a way that lingered long after the last spoonful. The evening was a crescendo of tastes and tales, leaving us with a lingering sense of contentment and an unforgettable culinary memory.
Each of these venues showcases Celebrity Edge’s commitment to offering world-class dining experiences that cater to all palates, creating unforgettable culinary journeys with every meal.
Main Dining Rooms
On the Celebrity Edge, your taste buds are in for a treat with not one, but four fabulous main dining rooms, each offering a unique vibe and a diverse culinary experience. Picture yourself stepping into Normandie, a chic nod to French cuisine with its sophisticated menu and elegant atmosphere. The decor is as stylish as the dishes, making every meal feel like a special occasion. Or, venture into Tuscan, where earthy tones and rustic charm create the perfect backdrop for classic Italian flavours. From handmade pastas to perfectly aged cheeses, every dish is a celebration of Italy’s rich culinary heritage.
Cruise over to Cyprus, where you’ll find fresh Mediterranean flavours served up in a warm, inviting setting. The menu offers a mouthwatering selection of dishes inspired by the sun-drenched shores of Greece. Last but certainly not least, there’s Cosmopolitan, offering a more modern take on traditional fare. Known for its vibrant ambiance and innovative dishes, it’s a place where familiar flavours get a creative twist, leaving you excited with each bite. No matter which dining room you choose, the Celebrity Edge ensures each meal is a delightful adventure.
The Martini Bar
The Martini Bar was one of the most popular venues on the Celebrity Edge. Located midship, it’s a vibrant space buzzing with energy, where the glow of colourful lights reflects off an impressive collection of spirits. This bar is where mixologists double as entertainers, skilfully crafting cocktails with flair and precision. From classic concoctions to innovative blends, the drink menu is extensive, promising something new with every visit.
Now, let me share a personal favourite—The Apple Martini. Just the name conjures thoughts of crisp and refreshing flavours. Watching it being made is a treat in itself, the bartender expertly mixes a drink that balances sweetness with a hint of tartness, served in a perfectly chilled glass with a crisp slice of Granny Smith apple adornment. At The Martini Bar, the ambiance, service, and, most importantly, the cocktails, like my Apple Martini, make each evening (or pre-dinner drink) a true highlight of your cruise.
The Magic Carpet
The Magic Carpet on the Celebrity Edge is truly a marvel, blending innovation and functionality in an unparalleled way. Picture it: a striking, orange, floating platform that glides effortlessly along the ship’s exterior, transforming itself to suit the moment. As the Magic Carpet gracefully moves between decks, it serves multiple purposes, adding a dynamic element to every cruise experience. Starting at Deck 16, it offers breathtaking views as a remarkable open-air extension of the pool area, perfect for lounging while savouring the sea breeze.
But this is just the beginning. As the sun sets, the carpet seamlessly transforms into a stylish venue for fresh cocktails and mingling. Here, the ambiance shifts to a more intimate vibe, with softly lit tables and a gentle hum of conversation. However, the Magic Carpet is not merely about leisure; it plays a pivotal role in functionality as well.

In times of inclement weather—be it heavy rain, strong winds, or rough seas—the Magic Carpet might be closed to ensure passenger safety. This closure ensures that guests enjoy the breathtaking views and creative spaces provided by the Magic Carpet without compromising security.
One must not miss the Magic Carpet, a remarkable engineering marvel. This multi-level platform transforms spaces and views, offering a unique perspective and ambiance whether you’re at sea or at a port.
Entertainment

The ship’s theatre is a hub of dynamic performances, offering everything from Broadway-style shows to contemporary dance acts, each presented with cutting-edge technology that enhances every storyline. If you’re passionate about music, the live performances might be your calling, where talented musicians play a diverse range of tunes that turn every night into an unforgettable musical journey.
For a more interactive experience, you might find yourself drawn to the engaging variety shows that blend comedy, acrobatics, and audience participation, guaranteeing laughter and amazement. Meanwhile, art enthusiasts can explore the extensive onboard gallery, brimming with captivating pieces from both emerging and established artists, perfect for those who wish to experience culture at sea.
