When travelling a lot, particularly spending long periods in a car on a road trip, it’s great to find somewhere you can pamper yourself and while staying in Sligo, we took the chance to visit Voya Seaweed Baths.
There are many known about the benefits of seaweed for your skin including it being a great detoxification and moisturiser for the skin so what a great way to enjoy the benefits than bathing in it.
To take full advantage of the seaweed bath, we started with an hour long massage, which after being on the road for a week was pure bliss. After the massage, we moved to the seaweed bath room.
Voya has four styles of bathing rooms – there’s a single bath and steam room, a twin bath and steam room – the deluxe twin and steam room which includes two steam and shower enclosures. The piece de resistance though is the Wild Atlantic View Room for two people which features two luxurious baths and is set with mood lighting, where you can enjoy your seaweed bath wile watching the crashing waves of the sea below.
To enjoy the full benefits of the seaweed bath, a steam shower in your private room will help open your pores. Then you enter the bath which to begin with has approximately 20 centimetres of water filled with seaweed. Once you’re in and get used to the feeling of the seaweed swirling around you, you can fill the bath to your desired depth. It takes a little while to get used to and for me who is not particularly fond of the feeling of seaweed, I found it not difficult at all to get used to.
Your time in the bath goes for 50 minutes and afterwards you feel completely relaxed. You’re encouraged to drink water while bathing to keep you hydrated and your skin feels silky smooth after the experience. In fact the silky smooth skin can last for up to a week.
Next time I’m visiting County Sligo, I’m definitely heading to Voya for another seaweed bath and you will find it in Strandhill, Sligo right across from the beach.
